The mental decay you get from spending way too long scrolling through low-effort internet content. Oxford's 2024 Word of the Year and still going strong.

WHAT IS BRAIN ROT?

Brain rot is the feeling your brain is literally melting from consuming too much mindless internet content. Whether it's doom-scrolling TikTok at 3am or watching your tenth mukbang of the day, brain rot is what happens when your screen time stats look like a phone number. Oxford named it their 2024 Word of the Year after usage spiked 230% — and honestly, that tracks.

HOW TO USE IT

As a noun: Refers to the content itself or the state of mental mush you're in. "Pure brain rot on my FYP today."
As an adjective: Describes content or behavior that's aggressively unserious. "That was the most brain rot video I've ever seen."
Self-aware flex: Used ironically to acknowledge your own terminally online behavior. "Sorry I said 'skibidi' out loud, the brain rot is real."

EXAMPLES

"I just watched 45 minutes of soap cutting videos. The brain rot has won."
"My screen time is 9 hours and it's all brain rot content, no regrets."
"He started explaining Skibidi Toilet lore at dinner — absolute brain rot."
