Pookie is a Gen-Z term of endearment β equal parts cutesy ('hi pookie!'), parasocial (your favorite streamer is your pookie), and ironic (your roommate's chaotic ex is your pookie too).
WHAT IS POOKIE?
Pookie is a soft, cutesy nickname for someone you love β historically a partner or close friend, but in 2026 it's been stretched to cover everything from your favorite K-pop bias to the random guy who bagged your groceries with vibe. The word itself isn't new (it's been a pet name since at least the '70s), but it got mainstreamed in 2024 when Jeff Puckett's "Hi Pookie!" TikToks to his wife Campbell broke containment and now lives rent-free in every comment section.
HOW TO USE IT
βThe classic Pookie: Sincere pet name for your partner, bestie, or pet. "Goodnight my pookie π₯°"
βParasocial Pookie: Naming a celebrity, streamer, or fictional character your pookie even though they don't know you exist. "TimothΓ©e is MY pookie, back off."
βPookie-coded: Adjective for anyone giving soft, golden-retriever-boyfriend, would-bring-you-soup-when-sick energy. "He texted goodnight first β pookie-coded behavior."
βIronic Pookie: Used unhinged on someone who is the opposite of a pookie β your toxic ex, a chaotic Bachelor contestant, a fictional villain. "My pookie just got arrested again π"
EXAMPLES
β"Hi pookie! Just made dinner, when are you home?"
β"Pedro Pascal is everyone's pookie and that's just a fact."
β"Not my pookie texting 'wyd' at 2am like we didn't break up in March."
β"He held the door AND remembered my coffee order. Pookie-coded."
β"POV: your pookie just got their first Letterboxd review and it's a 5-star for Minions 2."
