To talk excessively, often about nothing important — but also a badge of honor for people who own their chattiness. 'Let her yap' flipped the insult into empowerment.

WHAT IS YAP?

Yap means to talk a lot — sometimes too much, sometimes brilliantly. Originally a straight-up roast for someone who won't shut up, Gen Z flipped it into something way more nuanced. In 2024-2025, "yapping" became TikTok's favorite word for excessive talking, but the twist is that "let her yap" turned it into a compliment: she's ranting, she's passionate, and she's absolutely right. The dual meaning IS the culture — it's simultaneously a drag and a flex depending on delivery and context.

HOW TO USE IT

Yapping: Talking too much, usually about something nobody asked about. "She's been yapping for 20 minutes about her Spotify Wrapped." Can be affectionate or a roast — tone is everything.
Yapper: Someone who talks non-stop. Self-identified yappers wear this label proudly on TikTok, turning their "yapping sessions" into a whole content format. Think podcast energy but in comment sections.
Let her/him yap: The empowerment remix. When someone is going OFF on a rant and every word is hitting, you say "let her yap" — meaning don't interrupt, she's cooking. It's the verbal equivalent of "she ate that."
Yap session: A long, usually unhinged conversation or monologue. "Sorry for the yap session but I have THOUGHTS." Common in group chats and Discord servers.

EXAMPLES

"I know I'm yapping but this take is too important to keep short"
"Nobody asked but I'm gonna yap anyway — that movie was mid and here's why"
"Let her yap bro she's literally right about everything"
"Certified yapper and I'm not even sorry about it 🗣️"
